Recently Published: Renewing God's People

The Renewing God's People series is intended to help in the renewal of churches and individuals by focusing on the primary relationship of those people with God. The first book in the series, Renewing God's People For God-Led Ministries analyzes how it is that God motivates ministries through the loving and trusting relationship of the people of God with God. The book describes in detail what happens when other motivators come into the lives of those people to replace trust in God and how these other motivators impact ministries and behavior in negative ways. The three books of Renewing Gods People: Sermons and Devotional Reads for each of the three years of the Revised Common Lectionary provide preaching aids and devotional readings for both pastors and lay people who are in a renewal process.  Available in paperback and Kindle formats.

Background: Prior to becoming a pastor in 1987, I had a 15-year career in publications, serving as an editor and publisher of suburban weekly newspapers, general manager of a daily newspaper and publishing company, and later a consultant in publications and print media management.

All these skills combined to serve me well as a parish pastor and redeveloper, serving parishes in Indiana, Kentucky, and Florida. As a pastor-redeveloper, I have a keen understanding of the central role of God's call in the life of a church and have worked with numerous pastors and parishes to assist them in discerning God's call and developing new direction for ministry.  Currently I train and mentor pastors for Transition/Interim Ministry for the Florida-Bahamas Synod, ELCA, having served for 15 years as an intentional interim pastor specializing in turnaround work for troubled parishes seeking renewal and new direction.  Prior to that, from 2002 to 2007 I served the Bishop's staff of the Florida-Bahamas Synod as Director of Communications.  From 2008-2011, I also served in a part-time capacity on the Bishop's staff of the Indiana-Kentucky Synod, ELCA to plan, develop and initiate a $1 million fund and capital campaign to assist with the support and training of pastors.

My worship and music interest span over 50 years of study, writing, lecturing, teaching, leading workshops, and assisting committees, pastors, parishes, and synods throughout the ELCA. I am a professional musician and a published composer (Augsburg Fortress and GIA) and have served as Worship Consultant to the Florida-Bahamas Synod and the Indiana-Kentucky Synod, ELCA.
